Assemblies of God Position Paper: “The Security of the Believer”

Below is a paper that was published by the General Presbytery of the Assemblies of God explaining their reasoning in regard to the security of the believer. In was published in 1978 and has remained the domination’s official position.  One caveat: unfortunately, the paper claims that it takes a position between the two “extremes” of Calvinism and Arminianism when, happily, it actually takes the traditional, five point Arminian view of apostasy, that true believers can forsake faith in Christ and therefore perish as unbelievers. It seems that the Assemblies of God General Presbytery did not fully understand the Arminian position on apostasy at the time the paper was written, perhaps confusing traditional Arminianism with certain forms of Wesleyanism.
