As we enter into this Thanksgiving week I wanted to write a post that reflects my heart and my praise to God for the gift of His Son. I could write and be thankful for the many blessings God has given my family and I such as a home, my job, my children (all three of them) and life itself. But more than all those things, I am thankful that God gave His greatest gift when He sent His one and only Son to earth to die for my sins (John 3:16). What a glorious thought that the God of heaven would come down to dwell among men and to become a servant to suffer and die for our sins (Isaiah 52:12-53:12; Philippians 2:5-11).
Jesus is the perfect Savior for this imperfect man. I have so many faults and I am so far from being perfect (Matthew 5:48), but I praise God that He has saved me not because of righteous things which I have done but by His mercy that He has freely given in His Son (Romans 3:22-25; Titus 3:5-7). I am saved by grace through faith and not by any works (Ephesians 2:8-9), for what works could ever begin to compare to the grace given to me in Christ Jesus? Jesus’ sacrifice was perfect and complete (John 19:30), and His death and resurrection guarantee that I am accepted in the Beloved (1 Corinthians 15:50-58). Through Christ, I am a son of God (1 John 3:1-3)!
So as we pause today in the United States to be thankful to God Almighty for His blessings, I pray that true disciples will not fail to thank God for His Son and for His wonderful salvation that He has wrought through Christ.
