“Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.”
If you had never heard of Calvinism, and after having read Proverbs 4:23, would you naturally presume the existence of free-will?
Question: If you were a determinist, how could you truly believe that you have control over your own heart?
Question: What “diligence” would be needed for something that is 100% completely out of your control, in which everything you think and do would be externally determined for you by someone else?
The point is that free-will has to be the natural understanding of Scripture or else verses like this one would make no sense.
